Does anyone out there want to discuss gearboxes, clutches, props etc tonight?

    Questions are as post above...

I'm assuming in order to fit a 01E that I'd need the shorter S2 coupe 6spd prop-shaft and matching diff.

What happens to the clutch / flywheel? - I have a 90q 20v flywheel and a 90q 20v performance clutch, can this still be used or would I be looking at getting another flywheel and clutch? If so what?!
      AFAIK

      You need

6 speed coupe prop (or half a 6 speed avant prop, mated to half your 5 speed coupe one)
If your diff is 4.11 you don't need an S2 coupe diff (unless you want s2 coupe driveshafts etc)
You can use the 7a flywheel and clutch, just don't use the gearbox spacer for the dual mass flywheel.

      You will also need
      6 speed gearbox mounts
      6 speed shifter
gearbox mount spacer, or 6 speed fr subframe

I don't know what fr axle combo will bolt and 01e into 90 hubs?

You'll need s2 driveshafts, outers fit into 4bolt hubs. Inners are bigger to match output shafts on 01E.

          Thanks mate!

I know roughly what bits I need now, the thing I was most concerned about was the clutch as I already bought a high spec sachs clutch for the 7a 5spd set up, and didn't want to have to buy another!

I think the 6 spd would be the way to go, its the strength aspect with the 5spd I'm worried about...

I am buying S2 coupe hubs for a 5 bolt conversion.

As far I am aware 90q 20v driveshafts are the same as S2 driveshafts and can fit the hubs as the splines are 82mm, can anyone confirm that they will mate up with the 01E gearbox?

            Cheers,

No they aren't the same. As Andy said above the inner CVs are larger on the S2, consequently your 20v shafts will not fit the output flanges on the 01E.

Here is a definitive list to do it properly:

              01E gearbox
Complete ABY/ADU shift linkage inc gear lever ball joint assembly
ABY/ADU gearbox mounts (or custom made)
              S2 front driveshafts
ABY slave cylinder line (or modify your 5spd one to clear the linkage)
6 speed / V6 front subframe or spacer for gearbox mount height difference
ABY coupe prop (or you can use front half of S2 avant prop with rear half of 5spd prop)
Unless you have ABY engine harness, you'll need to modify the wiring for reverse light switch & gearbox speed sensor (loom needs extending).

Yeah, as i said you need s2 shafts to fit the inner flanges of the 01E.

I have a cheap one for sale....
