    6 Speed box to FWD?

Hi everyone. This is probably a bit silly but i thought i would ask anyway.

Is it possible to use/convert a 6 speed quattro gearbox on a FWD car?

Wow! Easy as that! Will the s6 6 speed box bolt direct to the origional mounting points on a s2 6 speed subframe?

That box is cheep!! Will that bolt to the subframe too?

The s6 6 speed box will need 6 speed s2 gearbox mounts.

            AFAIK to fit a six speed you need;

            6 speed box
            6 speed s2 gearbox mounts
6 speed s2 or v6 front subframe (think some have spaced a 5 speed subframe???)
            6 speed s2 linkage
            6 speed s2 shifter
6 speed s2 propshaft (not relavant to you)

Have a search for 6 speed swaps/conversions, it is covered.

Someone else might know if your driveshafts will bolt up or if you will need others/combination shafts/CV joints.

bikerjims' car should have 100mm axles now, and the 6 speed will have 108mm flanges for the axles.

and what i did there was used 4kQ rear diff flange from passenger side in both sides of the front diff. they will bolt in to a regular 01E to have 108mm flanges in the front.

I noticed a lot of kit cars use a 2wd 01E gearbox with the Audi V8 engine. Not sure what the gearbox is out of though.

This is great info guys thank you.

Im not sure if i would be daft using a 6 speed setup with my application anyway.

Im thinking for the 1.8t swap i have planned, but thinking about it, the s6 had quite a short first gear. Think i need to find a 5 speed box with a bit longer legs really.

My old audi 80 saloon with the 90 hp ABK had a good box. It was doing fairly low 2500 ish rpm at 70mph from memory. My 16v gearbox is nearer 3000 rpm at 70

Is there anywhere i can get ratio info on different gearbox codes and what cars they are fitted to?

Maybe a v6 FWD gearbox would be better?

on the vw the 108mms can be sorted by using a transporter 108mm. it takes a g60 splines shaft on the outside then.

                    tdi box also from 2.5tdi

                      v6 is differnt bnell housing.

my advice. stick with the 1.8t box. a 6 speed may need bigger rims to make it move ok.

you may have org 6tr trannys 2wd... go to the scrap yard.. they have .. im shure...
some of the newer trannys, does have dual bolt patttern, so they will fit ANY audi vw engine...the early 01a , some of them does fit 4, 5, vr5, vr6, v8 engines...

the early 01E here in US all work 4/5 cyl, 6 and 8 cyl as well. the ones i have (Euro TDI 01E 6 speed and UrS4 01E 5 speed) are dual pattern bellhousings for 4 and 5 cyl. one of the multitude of reasons i went 4 cyl motor in the race car.

That was my first thought - why not get the box from a 2.6 or 2.8 V6 FWD - should be able to track one of those down in any large scrappie.

As for Ratios, the 5 speed box in my 2.8 V6 Coupe did 108 mph in 3rd gear

                            Cheers n
