    clutch worn? How to tell?

Anyone got any dimensions on clutch wear? I don't know how thick they are when new and what the rough limits are in terms of wear
At a guess I'd say there is approx 2mm of material before the rivets.

Also has anyone got a clutch alignment tool I could borrow?

    Cheers

Not sure on the official spec but 2mm should last a fair while. I've got a brand new plate for a ur in the shed that I can measure in the morning for you. I've also got an alignment tool you could use but the postage there and back would probably be close to the cost of a new one tbh. Why not try this.... take a 3/8 extension bar, measure how far along it the clutch plate the would be if you posted one end into the pilot brg, wrap insulting tape around it in two places to make it an inteference fit into the brg and the plate, fit the cover so its holding the plate in place but loose enough for you to move it and then tweak the positioning by eye looking down the extension bar toward the flywheel. If this all seems like tripe but you'd like to borrow the tool anyway then PM me and we can sort it out.
    Cheers,
    Dan.

I did something similar when changing my focus clutch, only i used a torch which was roughly the right diameter of the hole! Worked a treat.

I'm sure there is a joke in there somewhere, not sure of the actual friction plate dimensions, had a quick look in the Bentley book but didnt find anything. 2mm does sound like a good bit of meat to me.

ok cool - well realistically it only needs to last 12-18 months and probably about 5-8k of driving before my 20vt will be ready
