    Gearboxes and gear ratios

Is there a gearbox out there for a 5 cylinder Audi that will allow at least 60 in 2nd, or a way to change the ratios to do so?
The 10v ur turbo box is supposedly bulletproof but cannot easily be tinkered with. Would like something with same reliability if poss.
    Cheers

Yes - there is a suitable combination on 2nd gear in the 016 box with the 'longer' final drive that can deliver 60mph in 2nd. Well I'm 99% sure anyway - I have a gearing calculator spreadsheet thing that I built but its on another computer. Gimme a few days and I'll dig it up for you - PM me for a reminder !

the gearboxes final ratio.the main of the finals are 4,111-1 any gearboxes from audi, yes i mean for sure about9 95% are 4,111, but there are some others.you may have 3,889 in some of the URQ's ,with and without torsendiff......and there are so on in some dieselsmodels too.they dont have hi rpm....there are some differense in the gearsteps, were you may have your 60miles in second gear..... in my car there are 16 different gearboxes in 1986!!!!!.

I think all the 5 speed boxes were the same size. Different bell housing shapes on some. The 6 speed has different length drive shafts.

Which car would have an 016 gearbox? Would that gearbox still allow the engine to rev to 7200 rpm?
Obviously the idea is to release the cars potential not restrict it in any way.

audi have very strong gearboxes anyway.....you may rev it how you want.if you change the rods you may rev it to 8000.....i think KRB trading rev the engine to 9500.

Your hydraulic lifters/tappets will not work much over 7600rpm.
