And a pic of it all fitted with x-member using the bodged SQ bracket.

Worth saying that I doubt you could do this without removing the x-member as there isn't enough clearance.

Also worth saying that I had to remove NOTHING off the snub bracket on the engine. Just fitted the new rubber over stock mount.

I don't have a pic of the modified bracket - its not pretty shall we say, but the notes on this pic explain what was done. I used a 12mm drill for most of the material removal. I needed to fold back the edges of the bracket to get the right position and ensure I had enough material for the bolts with washers to work with.

I'll maybe remove it all again for a pic and actually I should have painted over the bare metal on the bracket if I'm honest.

PS - Ignore the white section on the bracket - its just a sticker !

Right chaps, following on from the original stub mount which Mr Casey designed and I machined up, there have been a few developments.

The original was fine for cars with no aux rad, but we needed to tweak the design for those retaining aux rads.

I fitted the modified design to my standard Avant just after chrimbo, it went in a treat and has certainly reduced engine 'shunt' as intended.

The mounts are compatible with all the standard fitting parts and are CNC machined from 6082 T6 Aluminium, with all edges nicely chamfered so you don't cut yourself!

If you are interested in one of these, please PM either myself or Andy Casey, price is ÂŁ70 including postage, which we feel is about right.

I have pics for the full fitting process if required, again PM me for these.

          Cheers,

          Al

Further to this, I seeked out the other snub rubbers I bought for test fitting. I had some the wrong way round - I initially thought the A6AR version was mega stiff (8D0 199 339L) but its not at all.

The really stiff one is 8D0 199 339E (E for Echo) as fitted to B5 RS4 amongst other things. I'm gonna send that one to Rusty for thoughts to application with a custom bracket for S2/RS2.

I would say the RS4 one is too big for the SQ mount - that is also why I discounted, but it could be fine for a Rusty special

I used 8D0 199 339P to good effect on mine - with the SQ bracket. Deffo stiffer than OE (811 199 339B) but nothing like as stiff as the RS4 one.

Note about allroad applications - the 339L (Lima) is quite soft - from V6 TDi engine

The stiffer 339P (Papa) is from V6 petrol engine (2.7T) on the allroad - also called up for many other applications.

Hmmmm. had a look at my car this evening - took off the stock snub mount bracket and aux rad mount.

my rubber snub doesn't sit in the middle of the two bracket mounting holes on the XM - probably 10mm off to one side
There is a bit of adjustment to be had with the XM bolt holes and the bracket itelf to play with but I remember from previously having the XM off that its not the most sturdy mouting arrangement onto the chassis either side, so wouldn't feel too confident forcing the SQ mount on really.

                                have other poeple found this?

Is my engine out of line on the mounts or something??
