Yep its no problem, its the front half of the Prop before the Centre Universal Joint that needs to be shorter, but you can take this from Avant/Coupe ABY. Ive done this myself!

if your engine in your coupe quattro it is the 160 or 170 hp.... install the ABY gearbox must be a waste of time. you will lose acceleration ¡¡¡ because they has longer ratios and you will dont have enough power for move it
i am very happy with my coupe quattro gearbox with more than 360hp

Basically Using ABY box (code CGR) on 20V CQ (gearbox code AXM) is like adding 6th gear to current gearbox. Only significant chage is, that 2nd gear is shorter ratio whitch means that acceleration only in 2nd is worse. Rest of the differences are too small to notice and acceleration is nearly identical.
Final drives are 37:9 = 4.111 on both cars.
AXM Ratios:
For 01E you can check here: http://www.elektro.com/~audi/01e/, allthough I still go over ETKA or ELSA to be sure about specific ratios of some boxes(for example 3rd gear ratio for TDI box is wrong on the page).
For 01A I still have to use ETKA.

i knew it
the CGR box is very similar with the 5 first speeds ,but the second and third gears are better relationed, and adding its very few horse power....
i think that is is too many work/money for the very small "upgrade",because how many $$$ fuel will spend more with the coupe quattro gearbox in all the life over the CGR with the "long" 6 speed?? and after this,in a track or funny races the coupe quattro gearbox should be better, with more response and surelly adding less ¿weight?
later, many times listening the engine noise we are runnig faster ,because we like to go between 3500/4000rpm ....
for example i am travleling slower than before, because i dotn like to rev the car every kms more than 4000rpm ...
thanks friend¡
