This is a question about electrics as much as gearbox... I am trying to find info on the inductive speed sensor (G38) that was used on B2 models equipped with cruise control. Reason being the older KV quattros had a mechanical cable drive for the speedo... and the addition of G38 on the gearbox gave them the 'VSS' signal into the cruise control module.
Seemingly G38 reappears on recent VAG transmissions but I am curious to know if I can retrofit a G38 into an 01E gearbox for a good VSS source. The car in question is a KV quattro donor that now has AAN motor and 01E gearbox... the owner already modified it to run the KV speedo clocks on a cable... just trying to find the most elegant way to add VSS.
I reckon the URs with digidash did it differently as they used the hall effect sensor (G22/G68) much like the S2/RS2 and presumably sourced a VSS from that.
Guess I need to dig out the old books and family album for a lengthy search, but hopefully someone has BTDT that will save some time.
