To be honest, I didn't really notiice a big difference between the two on the avant... it still drove well in traffic, just a little more responsive, and on/off throttle a little harsher. I didn't really notice it feeling harsh when driving the S2, but I would notice getting into a DMF car that it felt smoother on/off the power in comparison

Personally, on the RS2, I've stuck with the current 160k miler as the rubber feels OK and I am all about comfort this time round. It's handled 400+ ft/lb for the past 80,000 miles too.

Is there nowhere that can recondition the DMF?

I bought an original RS2 clutch with DMF from Dahlbäck about a year ago and it was less than 1000euros.

            It's worth a try: http://www.audituning.com/
