6 speed transmitions info

my car was made in 1993 so it is aby model. i have 6 speed gearbox, and i think my car is MY94 (it has elypsoid light). i would like to know what kind of gearboy i have, because i heard that first 6 speed geraboy has weak 1 gear, but latter audi fix that problem. is there any gerbox number and where can i find it?

You have an 01E gearbox - probably NOT with the hardened/widened 1st gear. This came into production approx July 1994 with gearbox number 77644 from memory. Check on S2central.net - there is a link to some great gearbox info - a site built by Charlie somebody !

Why worry about it - lots of us have the earlier 01E. You shouldn't have any problems unless you are really brutal with 1st gear launches.

It's not weak, just not as strong Don't worry about it until it starts to make noises. It may be fine forever.......

Some of us are still using original 5 speed box. This is supposed to have a weaker 1st gear, yet thats never the part that has given up on mine.
