    Clutch not releasing...

Looking for a bit of advice.

Clutch gone at weekend, well, drives fine just won't release. Release mech fine, must be clutch itself?

Looking for good quality standard clutch kit.

Audi say its discontinued? Sachs and LUK list and have stock.

    What are peoples thoughts?

Firstly, check that the master cylinder linkage is intact and that the springs are all in place - it sounds like a spring has popped out.

If the car drives with the clutch pedal pulled up then it's not likely to be the clutch.

There was a Sachs clutch in the for sale section that will fit the stock RS2 dual mass flywheel - http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...ighlight=sachs

It would be worth speaking to colesy too since I messed up a bit on group buy so if you need a new clutch and are happy to pay cost of Group Buy you could buy the ABY/ADU one he has and can get him the 3B he should have had

If the release mechanism works as you say then the pressure plate has failed leaving you with the clutch locked on - not that uncommon.

I think the fingers have gone, meaning when you press the pedal it doesnt release properly.

Any thoughts on which make to go for? Who was OE?

Go for Sachs. OE was either Sachs or Luk.

I'm on my third pressure plate and have OE Luk in my ABY which is the best IMO as you can get the pressure plate on its own exchange for a good price and the clutch pedal is much lighter than with the previous Sachs plate which makes the car nicer to drive and easier on the notorious rubber flexi in the master cylinder pushrod linkage.

quattro corner for replacement clutch if an uprated one is a little too pricey...

                      Thanks for the pics

I indeed imagine that is what I will find.

Got the clutch on order, input seal and various little bits to change while gearbox out.

What I found on mine (twice ) was that the fingers all looked fine but what had happened was that the ring of wire they pivot on had broken at the join weld causing the fingers pivot point to move out just enough so that the clutch could no longer disengage. Be interested to hear what you find.

Ok, changed out the clutch the other day, and found the problem.

The pressure plate was fine, and had me worried until I had a close look at the friction plate. The material had separated and was being flung out by centrifugal force and dragging on the flywheel. Explains why it was worst at higher revs.

If the flywheel didn't have a recess I am sure it would have disintegrated all together and left me stranded in Wales. As it was, I drove it home (wouldn't release).
