    Instaling an S4 gearbox ? Porsche G50 gearbox ?

Do to problems with my RS2 gearbox I spent last few days on gearbox search. I think that it should be posible to install a 2.7T S4 gearbox to an Audi S2.

    on http://www.en.getrag.de/238
Go to Products -> Transaxle inline mounted transmission

and there You can see that the gearbox is listed as up to 450Nm ... but I have seen RS4 tuned by B&B to 650Nm and still runing ...

I have also found and article on

that sugests use of Porsche G50 gearbox ... did any of You heard about that ?

and at last there is a coment that
"I'm presuming in fwd application not awd application? Either will
work well, the 016 is good for about 400hp, the 01E probably another
100hp. The 01E has been known to have 1st gear problems (resolved
as of 95 with a wider first gear), the 016 weak link is 3rd gear
high torque blows. Both have "issues" with small ring gear and
high torque, the 01E probably better than the 016 in this respect,
but cooling the diff oil is a big factor.

For a small block ford, I'd suggest the 01E since it can take the
SB torque a bit better than the 016. "

So the famus 016 is acording to Scott not the best idea.

    Any coments ?

to use the g50 wouldn't you have to like change something as the transmission would be mounted backwards?

From my research, as I am putting a '01 S4 gearbox into my sedan, the EDU gearbox is 7mm longer, but a ABY linkage and S2 inner CVs and half shafts, and it'll bolt right up. I haven't come to any final conclusions. There is something on top of the tranny that needs to be machined off, but it's only 2-3mm on something a little larger than a tennis ball.

If you go to www.s2central.com in the technical section theres a great write up on the dual mass flywheel (with cutaway pics).

You can retro fit the single mass if you remove the spacer.

Yes, that's right. It should be changed at double-mass flywheel or it can be adapted with single-mass flywheel? Singlemass wheel is shorther I think...

Are not the transmission input shafts longer on the cars with dual-mass flywheels? Can you just install the trans without the spacer, using a regular flywheel?

Thats correct, by taking out the spacer you can just use the solid flywheel with a 6 speed gearbox.

I`m also mounting a EDU 6spd gearbox in my s2 with some mods.

                            Cheers,
