The gearbox on my urS4 (1992 model) has the dreaded whine in first gear. So what boxes can I replace it with? I'd assume anything I like off an urS4 or urS6 (although rocking horse poo springs to mind with these), but will the one from an S2 fit ok?
the mostly trannys will fit... BUT remeber the ratio /year code by the upper 2 boltholes in bellhousing ; stamped in...( fx AHA 12345 or CBL 23456)... does you have the quattro car, have the same ratio in front and rear...also remeber tha small changes as the gearlink, clutch, and propchaft flences...
i will used a 6tr tranny after 95...but 5tr will do the job too.. ( dont use the CBL tranny... 6tr from s4) the does have the weak 1 gear and bad bearings)
Hi, The gearbox on my urS4 (1992 model) has the dreaded whine in first gear. So what boxes can I replace it with? I'd assume anything I like off an urS4 or urS6 (although rocking horse poo springs to mind with these), but will the one from an S2 fit ok? Thanks Rob
The UrS4 (and UrS6) use an 01E transmission. Your best shot at a replacement is another UrS4/S6 transmission OR a B5 2.7tt S4 or C5 A6 2.7tt 6 speed transmission. The only downside with those B5/A6 transmissions is you will lose the ProConTen system because the B5/C5 A6 transmissions do not have a mounting boss for the ProConTen bracket.

Yeah, I was hoping to keep the ProConTen stuff if at all possible. I presume it's not viable to get a 2.7tt transmission and get the boss from my current box welded on?
Next question, anyone manged to drop a manual urS6 in the snow today?
