I'm wondering if anyone has any pointers for sensibly priced 3B clutches?
Last year i wanted to build "hybrid" clutch for my 1.8T A4, using a flywheel from an Audi 80 redrilled to take a 3B clutch kit.
At the time i noticed while scouring the Sachs catalog, that the 3B pressure plate crosses over to one from a VW LT Van (2.8TDi, AGK or ATA engine), and a lucky Ebay buy landed me a Sachs pressure plate for a VW LT for £50. I then baught a Genuine Audi 240mm clutch disk (again from ebay, £50) for a S4 4.2 V8, figuring that it was the same size as the 3B item, and should fit the gearbox spline as they've never changed since the 01A.
I had these bits nailed together and fitted and it all worked perfectly. The VW LT cover seems to be a direct replacement for the 3B one, and the V8 friction plate works perfectly with the plate and the gearbox. The whole setup cost me about £220 in the end, including machining the flywheel to 3B spec, and i was pretty happy with the outcome.
So now i'd like to replicate this for my other A4, and i've again purchased an Audi 80 flywheel, and a friction plate for a S4 V8, but i cant for the life of me find another VW LT pressure plate without spending well over £100. VW dealer wants around £130 for the pressure plate alone, my local factors and GSF/ECP only stock complete kits with prices ranging from £150 to £240.
Anyone know where i might find a 3B (or VW LT) cover plate for sensible money, or is this such a rare part that £130 from VW is the best i can do?
