    propshafts

hello. anyone tried to replace propshaft 01e311105j with 01e311105h? are they interchangable?mine gearbox is from s4 c4 and its damaged and im wondering if i can just buy a box from 2,5 tdi with newer wide and flexible propshaft and use two boxes to make one?

Do you mean to change the input shaft with newer wide 1st gear and flexible shaft instead of narrow first gear with non-flexible shaft?

To do that, you also need the output gear from the newer box and centre casing with the cutout for wider gear. It can be done, but you need both boxes to create hybrid newer box with S4 ratios. 1-2 gears have identical ratios, so you can use them from the TDI box and rest of the gears you can take from S4 box.

Ps: propshaft is the shaft between gearbox and the rear diff

Yes, I would use the TDI box as the base and transfer only the gears (3-6) from the S4 box, 2nd gear is identical so just use what is in better shape. I'd reccomend to change the synchros-hubs for gears 1-2 and 3-4 but if you are on tight budget then use best judgement and pick less worn bits. V8 box also has oli pump, so you must use the fron diff, front and rear covers from the v8 box.

My personal preference would be to use the 6th gear from TDI, you will get nice 1900rpm@100km/h cruising ratio for highway.

Tdi 6th is too long I found I used more petrol in 6th trying to maintain cruising speed than using high rpm in 5th with no load. So I went back to a normal non tdi box in the end for quicker acceleration.
