    Front outer CV joints

Failed the MOT on split cv gaitor so thought I'd replace the CV joints while I was at it.

Ordered a pair of cv joint kits from J&R here

Attempted fitting just now and they are too small. The CV joint doesn't fit on the drive shaft and the joint I am replacing is ~1cm bigger in diameter than the new ones. I've phoned them and they are adament that I have the right parts.

So my question is, are the drive shafts on the front different for a 3B and ABY? If so are the ABY shafts bigger? And therefore are the CV joints different? How many splines does an ABY drive shaft have? I've already reassembled old joint with the new gaitor and don't want to dismantle again...

Their info is wrong, the S2 doesn't use the same joint as a 2.0L
You probably have a 2.0L joint there.

and if they are £15.99 each do you really want them on the front of your 300bhp S2?

Get some genuine ones if you can...

Not wanting to upset the original poster but you really should research what parts you need before ordering from any on-line supplier.

There is absolutely no product information on that link.

Doesn't even tell you if it's ABS or not, never mind the number of splines etc. No part number either for cross reference.

Well it did have: 2.2 S2 Turbo 4WD, ABS - Y, Manual, Engine - All, Years - 10/90>12/96, it was linked to on the forum as being the right one and I needed it in a hurry for the MOT so rushed in and bought them. Won't happen again!

Cheers for your guide btw, screwing in the bolt to seperate the cv joint from the drive shaft is a really neat trick.
