    Alternative gearbox options?

Is there an alternative or internal upgrade for the 01E box that are not dog gears?

Finding the stock box configuration is just not liking 1st to 2nd despite having a late model box with wider 1st with fresh synchros lightweight flywheel etc...

do you have the org ratio in the car( org 4,111), may change the ratio, you got another gear ratio, thats suit you... (alt 3,889) or 3,700...

The gearshift on the later 01Es from the B6/B7 platform cars is far smoother, its like butter in comparison, but IIRC its not a straight swap. Pembo has a B7 RS4 box in his rally car, he might be able to help?

            the B6 trans is 01X.....

here is syncro 1-2 kit with different ratio's than 3.50/1.89. at least, the description reads syncro style engagement, and straight or helical. not positive though.

awhile back (couple years) i recall seeing SQS had syncro sets for 01E, as well as DOG but i dont see them offering anymore.

The only factory offerings for the first and second gear on the 01E gearbox are as follows:

                  3.75 2.14
                  3.50 1.89

I've had several alternative sets made to spec in dog or syncro engagement, but they are very expensive.

The B6 from 2002-2003 used an 01E Later cars used the 01X, and the B6/B7 S4/RS4 use the 0A3.

You can change the final ratio for the 01E, the factory options are:

                  3.89
                  4.11
                  4.35

And you also have several choices for 3,4,5,6 and I can have ratios made.

The stasis boxes all use factory parts.

Please post up the part number as the 3.70 final drive is not listed in the EPC.

The noise will still be there unless you find out what is causing it. What happens with these boxes is that first gear gets destroyed with drag racing and lots of horsepower. We can do different ratios and stronger gears but they don't have to be dog engagement, they can be syncro mesh also.
