Can't select any gears while engine running, if I sto th engine it will go into gear but if I try to start it it lurches forward, even with clutch pedal down. Has my clutch expired or could it be something else

Tough one. One of three things has failed: 1. Clutch pedal broken (happens if you let your clutch wear down, the force increases and fatigues the pedal metal), 2. The clutch master cylinder died or 3. The clutch slave or the hose between the master and slave has bust.

if your clutch is worn/gone beyond service, you can select all the gears you want, it just wont move or slip in higher gears, and the original poster mentioned nothing of a smell or slipping disc, clutch is not releasing is what it sounds like. is there fluid anywhere under the car ?
1991 S2 3B Coupe, KW v1, solid sub frames, poly bushed, chipped, about 260 ish
No smell of clutch material and so slipping, ever. It would make sense that one of the slave cylinders has gone US. Can't imagine a clutch failing without any warning(slipping, crunching, smelling) it was fine. I was getting it washed, engine running and had moved it forward about 10 ft and then tried to drive away and could not select any gears. How can I check for fluid loss, will my hydraulic fluid level be way down ?
