Is there anyway to tell if the rear drive shafts have wear in them the fronts clunck as we know, do rears do the same as i have a whirring noise in the near side rear wheel i have also noticed grease on the inner wheel rim first of i thought it was road noise all the bearings have been changed just can't pin it down any ideas.

Very likely the CV joint boot has split, allowing the grease to be spun out. Replace soon or pay for a complete new joint. Penny wise, pound foolish.
