Audi 2.5 TDI 6 speed manual box AEK

Hello all,

I am new to this forum but so far have got a lot of very useful info. Thank you.

I am building a road car, its going to be a first in the world (engine wise I hope). Im not going to mention the manufacturer or engine used but it will be mid engine, rear wheel drive with 650 BHP and 650 lb ft torque. The car is not going to be used up the 1/4 mile or drag starts but will be driven on the road/track quite hard.

When complete I will do a full write up with pics and videos.

Does anyone have any experience with the 01E 6 speed manual boxes found on 2.5 TDI Audi's? Gearbox code AEK. Is this gearbox Quattro only?

Does anyone know if Audi did a similar box but non quattro?

2.5tdi was available in 2wd format on the b5 a4 and the b5.5 passat with 01E 2wd gearboxes afaik.

I would love to tell you more but I would prefer to get it complete and running.

As soon as its done I will do a full write up inc video's and pictures.

Jusat realised that the box used in 2.5 TDI's is rod change and I need cable change. DOH.

ANyone know if there is a cable change box?

Its no problem to rebuild the linkage to be cable operated.. Just need to make some brackets to sit on the gearbox and a new shifter with the right cable lengths

Whats the stronger gearbox

AEK from a Audi A6 2.5 TDI

or

ARX from AUDI 100 1993 2.5TD

Both 6 speed Think they are both 01E boxes.
