S2 no pwer to the wheels

hi guys, please help: Audi S2 91 coupe quattro

currently when putting the car in gear and releasing the clutch slowly there is a slipping sound, had car in for diagnostic and possible repair at a driveshaft centre, thinking it was the outer CV i had them inspect it, CV joint intact. when the the car was put in gear with the wheel off, it continues to turn, should this happen. what could be the possible answer to this problem. the driveshaft centre was clueless...

    Thanks.....

Sounds like you need to get the gearbox out and get it checked. Do any of the gears engage drive?

I had this years ago and it was the driveshaft popping out of the cv joint

No I replaced the boot and I don't think the shaft went back to the cvjoint fully

Was easy fix in the end

S2 no power to the wheels

Hi, just a update, had my car towed back to reputable clutch and brake repair centre.
Got a call to say they suspect it is the gearbox, anyhow i made reference it could be a clutch related problem, guy insist it's the gearbox, he also called somebody out for a second opinion, anyhow i cant argue based on my limited knowledege on the S2 transmission. thus i pointed out they are to inspect clutch, release bearings etc. first.
Can the S2 gearbox die silently and without any warning signs, just to reiterate, there was no grinding sounds before the sudden loss of transmission.

                  Thanks...

Sounds like clutch failure to me. Either way box coming off so all will become apparent

with the car off. Put it n first and start it in gear with the clutch out. If its a really worn clutch you can sometimes move the car like this. It might help you point towards the problem before the garage do anything else.
