    Gear Linkage Replacement?

So I'm still not happy with the gear shift on my car, it seems rather vague and sometimes a bit iffy in changing gears though they do get in just fine most of the time. I'm almost certain it's the gear linkage which needs replacing. Is this possible to do with the box on?

Also should I go with this if I change the linkage?

I have not tried the 034 one but i am dubious about it being a straight fit.
The reason being I have a spherical bearing in my linkage which is bigger than that, with an undercut sleeve and there is only just enough movement in it to allow you to select all the gears. I also had to modify the angle of the linkage to get all the gears, which took about 6 hours (fit it, take it off, adjust it, refit it, take it off, adjust it etc etc.. you get the picture....

As with most 034 stuff, its probably ok, but only once you have made it fit properly.

So what would be my best bet, I suppose OEM would be a better choice if the price isn't too steep.

Also, can be done with the box still on the car easily?

        Thanks for the help

yes you can change it without removing much off the car. The OE linkage is not cheap, IIRC about £250.... but at least you know it will fit.

              gear linkage

Hi. If you lift up the leather gaiter from the gearstick and look at the ball and the socket that it sits in you will see a round metal spring clip. This usually breaks or springs off allowing the ball to be loose in the socket giving a sloppy gear selection. Worth a check. Brian
