    6-speed in 3B 5-speed, central driveshaft problems!

    Question:

When swapping the 5-speed for a 6, Do I need to change reardiff driveshaft to an ABY shaft? Or will the 3B just manage?

Last weekend I took everything apart. I mounted the new driveshafts (RS2) and Subframe (RS2) While prying in the S6 EDU gearbox, I wasn't able to fit it because of the central driveshaft. Aparently 1 cm to long
But maybe If I looson the Diff and maybe slide it a cm backwards I can have it fit....

    ANY BTDT's on this?

    Cheers

Have you measured/compared the length of the gearboxes?
Are you still using the 3B flywheel&clutch or dualmass with spacerplate? If you have dualmass withh spacerplate between engine and 'box, switch to singlemass and remove spacerplate. 10mm "saved"

    Cheers,
    Roger

Yes I have the 3B flywheel. So no more gain there. The engine is out aswell, so I have more then enough room at the front
But I just can't get the 2 bolts for the tranny holders.....

I didnt have those problems when i fitted my RS2 box (CRB i think). Try losening as you say and see if it won´t fit then. Or you can shorten the shaft. I did that on my Merc. I mean have someone shorten it and balanced.

When I did my coupe. I had to use the ABY shaft as the six speed is longer. You can also use the 4Q driveshaft. It is the same lenght as the ABY.

Just got out of the garage, and it fits
just have to undo the centre bearing of the shaft and slide it backwards, then compress the whole shaft approx. 1 / 1,5 cm and it fits perfectly!!
Dry tested the gearchange: perfect aswell.
