Diff lock in the snow :)

When diff lock is engaged should it feel bumpy when on half or full lock?

    Yes.

Diff lock is great for getting moving but not so good for cornering.

      Rear Diff Lock Info

Yes, at least on dry pavement/roads. When you turn, the inner rear wheel doesn't have to go as far as the outer rear wheel because of the different radii of the two turning circles. When the diff is unlocked, this is not a problem. When the diff lock is engaged, the two axels are locked together and therefore, the inner rear wheel has to chunk/slip to keep up with the outer rear wheel.

NEVER EVER engage the diff lock unless the car and rear wheels are completely stopped. Otherwise, you will damage the teeth in the lock, leading to rear diff damage. $$$

diff lock is good to me when there is a lot of snow on the streets . better traction and cornering. when diff is open I don't feel so much grip.
but newer try it on dry street. too much noise and diff can be broken.
if you have S2.. wait for snow and try. or came to my place here is 50cm and lot of fun

Realised today that the green light for the diff lock doesn't turn on for me so haven't been out in the snow.

            Another problem to fix.

The Diff lock is only supposed to be engaged when you are only going forward in a fairly straight path...I think it states this in the handbook.

Think diff lock automatically disengages at 15 mph

From reading around if the green light doesn't come on then either a vacum hose has broken or the mechanism on the diff has seized. There are a few threads on here with fixes for diff lock problems.

I just get an amber light when the switch is pressed also...

If it was on you would defo feel it when steering feels like you're dragging something. It turns itself off at 20 mph.
I'm convinced most problems are caused by a seized mech.

Yep, think the idea is just to get you goingfrom a standing start once you get going it just knocks off automatically.....works sweet from my experiences with it

Diff lock is great in the snow, especially for getting out of junction and for fun on bends. You can get a nice drift going before it turns off and keep it going.......... All the fun I miss after selling my avant.
Just some finishing touches to do now
