    Release bearing clearance

Can anyone confirm for a single mass flywheel 6 speed box what the distance is, if there is any, from the release bearing to the clutch splines when the bearing is all the way back against the bell housing? (not engaged)

I will try to measure today in my car....but normally...the slave has also an built in spring which is gently pressing the release bearing in contact with the splines.
You need the distance between the splines and bearing with the bearing with the slave maximum pressed in?

Cheers for that Yea I noticed that spring in the slave, but I need to work out the clearance between the bearing face and clutch splines when not pressed in, when the release bearing is at it's furthest toward the rear of the car.

Awesome! I'm hoping there is about 10mm or more, but I don't like my chances. As you can see in the pic, the new bearing is about 10mm higher/more depth than the original.

ok! Soo! With the release bearing pressed at maximum against the gearbox and an brand new Spec 3 clutch...the distance is 7mm. Iff you add the clutch wear...than this distance becomes smaller as the splines are releasing.

I will remove the release bearing bracket now and measure with the bearing alone...

Without the bracket and new clutch....the distance is 9mm.
Maibe you can do some machining there to install the new bearing further down the gearbox....
                Hope this helps!
                Regards!

Thanks for your help I'm using the same spec stage 3+ clutch and stage 5 pressure plate.

I measured the standard release bearing and thats 33mm, so 33 + 9 = 42mm clearance from the bell housing.

The tilton bearing is 45mm, so I'll have to try and shed at least 4 or 5mm somewhere. Machining might be a good idea, that way I could probably avoid using the ABY gearbox spacer.
