What is involved in removing the dual mass from my S6 and fitting the 3b set up? Obviously i need the flywheel and clutch but are there any more parts i need to obtain or mods to be made?
Also, what power is it good to take? Is it a smaller diameter to the stock S6 unit?
All you need is shorter flywheel bolts, power wise it all depends
on what clutch you use, 3B is the same diameter.
The other thing to note is you should get the bottom end balanced
if you change the flywheel as the 5 pot is externally balanced.
many people have done it and got away without balancing, but is doubtful
your bearings would last 200k as the factory balanced bottom ends do.
Rev it hard a lot with the bottom end out of balance and they might not
last 10k .

Oh right! So what happens usually when the dual mass fails? A bottom end balance?????
I have on my Urs4 a 7A single mass flywheel no balancing needed, engine running smooth no vibration or such.to go for single mass you need a 7a or 3b flywheel(new bolts too ) ,Sachs Sre pp 07 matching the flywheel ,sprung clutch disc.Hope that helps
BTDT, with an ABY, and I don't like it, if I was you now I'd leave the standard urS6 flywheel as is, and replace the clutch with a Sachs slightly up rated one if you feel the need to, otherwise leave as standard one is worn out, and it will drive much nicer, spend the extra money on a good turbo, 3" inch down pipe, a proper front mounted inter cooler, relay the fuel pump, relay the coils / replace them. Cat by pass, standard exhaust to avoid attention, bit of an off topic reply, rant over.
Headwork, and rods, rings, if you're opening the engine.
Just my tuppence worth, after doing making various changes on my cars over the years.
Thanks all for the advice. The reason is that my 1st gear is screaming plus the dual mass is making a right racket so it really wants changing for something!
In what way did you not like it? Was it noise? Shift quality etc . . . . .

How do you know 'no balancing was needed' ? You won't feel it unless it is very bad,
doesn't mean its OK just because you cant feel it.
Ask Basset down or JP how far out of balance some I5's are when flywheels are swapped.
Don t worry about balancing asked Jp, which provided me with the 7a flywheel and he said is ok .You never gonna use a highly modified engine or a modified engine for 100k miles in the real world on these days anyway. And with modified engines sometimes comes the unexpected factor I guess.

It's jerkier and hard to drive away smoothly. feels like oil on the disc making it jerky, also the clutch now engages very late in the "arc" of the clutch pedal travel. It only engages when the pedal is close to being fully released, as opposed to being a little bit off fully to the floor.
Sure get the gearbox seen to / buy a new AAN flywheel, or use second hand box and second hand good condition ion AAN flywheel ?
Unfortunately plenty of urS6 being parted out ATM.
Naturally my advice is just my opinion, rather than Gospel.

Thats because he will have checked it to see how far out it was. Some will be ok like i said, some will be way out. My point is is not sound advice to tell someone it will be fine when it may not be.
use singel mass flywheel; no prob with balance....what are yopu doing if yje dual mass are gone, buy a new one; those are balanced for your spec engine... no... and you cant set the flywheel wrong...the bolt holes will not line in... have the singelmass and pkate With springs and correkt disk....i think you will have your smile in the face a long time....
