Me being strictly a theoryboy, I think I read that you had to use a porsche rear lsd diff in a fwd box, as some porsche had that gearbox in the rear. and that the audi front diff was smaller than the rear audi diff.
I could be wrong though.
Has anyone successfully fitted an S2 torsen diff from a quattro gearbox into a FWD gearbox?
The S2 torsen is meant to distribute torque to the front and/or read wheels so it would make NO sense (sorry) to fix a S2 torsen diff to a FWD gearbox.

I am sure Brian is asking about the front diff not the centre diff. As if you were using the box bolted to a mid engined set up driving the rear wheels.

Yes exactly this sorry guys I was not too clear.
I shall have a mid engined rear wheel drive car using the Audi FWD box.
My concern is that it will just spin up one rear wheel all the time as this is what it used to do when I fitted a 20vt in a FWD cabriolet.
So I just wanted to know if I could use the diff out of the quattro box to use as an LSD or torsen to distribute drive equally to each side?

You'd have more chance if you figured a way to install a V8 Torsen rear diff in that FWD trans case.

I have seen 1 successfull attempt, on the urgewalt forum (typ85) in Germany someone installed a Torsen into the dif of a FWD typ81 coupe. it was a struggle but he got it working.
There was a forum member on here IIRC from Scandinavia who had done this, IIRC on a Type81 or 85 car.
IIRC he had to machine the diff carrier to mount the correct size bearing to fit in the gearbox casing. Or if you use a 5spd 01E box then Quaife and Wavetrac do a drop in helical diff, or you could get a conventional plated diff made up by Gripper etc - I think this would be the best option

so, after lots of time in etka and a good amount of time searching through old threads on here, i decided to see if anyone else has gone down this road.
the idea here....take a V8 rear diff...and put it in the front of an 01E transmission case. effectively getting yourself a front LSD for a...
Interesting info on exploding Torsen's as well
Also there are two different types of Torsen diff, one machine from a single chunk of material and one that is a multi-piece unit. The multi piece units are the failure prone ones I've experienced. Not had an issue with the single piece
