Cheers for the help, it seems the final drive ratio I'm after comes on the 2001 onwards models which on etka seems to be listed to come with a Torsen diff. Has no one tried to retrofit these to the older cars?
Anyway
Here are some details on the CYT box
Allocation Model: Audi A6 TDI
Engine: 2.5 l - 103 kW
Ratio Final drive 37 : 9 = 4.111
(Z2 : Z1=i) 1st gear 28 : 8 = 3.500
2nd gear 34 : 18 = 1.889
3rd gear 33 : 26 = 1.231
4th gear 27 : 31 = 0.871
5th gear 26 : 39 = 0.667
6th gear 23 : 41 = 0.561
Reverse gear 38 : 11 = 3.455
Speedometer Electronic
Capacity 2.7 litres
Specification Gear oil G 052 911 A SAE 75 W 90 (synthetic oil)
Clutch mechanism Hydraulic
Clutch plate dia. 240 mm
Drive shaft flange dia. 130 mm
Then found this for the DPJ...
The Euro A6 with 2.5TDI shows the use of the "DPJ" tranny with 4.11 to 1 FD,
(1st to 6th gears) 3.5, 1.89, 1.32, 1.03, 0.67, 0.56.
Which tallies up with reading this....
"My 96 2.5 TDI Quattro Avant does 80 @ 2200 rpm in 6th..
My gearbox code is CYT, I have an option code of G0L which translates as "6-speed manual transmission for four-wheel drive vehicle" "
So for some strange reason Audi made the gears closer for the 97 tdiq model compared to the 96. 2200 is what I'd like to acheive and I'd rather not get involved with trying to make diffs fit, so the easy option is to source a CYT box, like that'll be easy.
Or get another box with the correct final drive, then get the gears changed?
