I just found out the new 7 speed DSG 0B5 gearboxes weigh 140Kg inc fluids!!

Trick looking piece of kit though

Hmm dual clutch, semi automatic gear shifting, integrated controller, what could possibly go wrong. And as for that "Special tooth geometry beveloid gearing angular plains geometry" nonsense, that one fugly engineering solution to make it fit.

I would have thought the B8 manual box would be better

Yeah OB2 would be the way to go IMHO, I bet the DSG box is reliant on the ECU in a big way.
Either way you'd need to move the steering rack or at least reconfigure the track rods as there ain't much clearance there anyway

I am considering use a OB2 in my SWB project and even toying with the Idea of using a new 07k 2.5 engine also.
