    Rear diff fault?

Hi guys been driving the s2 to break it in and find niggles

have noticed a couple of times that on full lock turning into my driveway or even 3/4 lock sometimes at slow speed it feels like the rear is crabbing a little as if the diff lock is on (it isn't)

i belive the diff oil has never been done as the drain is proper seized

I have 18" wheels so not sure if this will affect it

    doesnt feel right though

I've had my diff done and there was barely any oil left in it (Leaking - seals replaced).

I think you should probably get the diff of and drain it from the filling plug or so I've read on here, that could be an alternative.

    Good luck

How do you know the diff lock is off ? Its possible it could break free from the vac actuator and stick on.

I'd bet the actuator came free of its support and is sticking the diff lock on.

Then you need to get under the rear diff and investigate. Sounds like the lock is on (despite the switch NOT being on).

Have a read on this first: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/170940.phtml

Yea the actuator is attached to that shield which like all shields tend to rustificate lol

They all sort of crab when your turning tight, at least all the quattros ive had did, be it the S6, 200, ur, 90 or the other 90

If the diff lock would be on, it would feel very bad (clunk, thump etc.) even with small amounts of lock. If you turn tight with throttle on, it will "crab" a little. Try a comparison run turning tight rolling on neutral/braking with engine vs. throttle on. The center diff is working only when the throttle is on, so it can give a slight feeling of crabbing, btdt.

Agreed they all do it. Put it on on tarmac they try to steer the difference is instantly noticeable.
Mine did it loads when first got it. Combination of geometry being out and shot tires.
However it still does it when getting on my drive slight incline at 3/4 lock.
