you can do the short shift mod and if its a 5 speed box its a straight swap. I found out that the ball and socket joint used in this mod is in fact a mk1 golf one. The part number for the circlip is n0124121021.Comment

Yeh the ball housing is loose the socket had a bit snapped of it also the cir clip has broken..Comment

The picture in it is just exactly as mine looks the metal ring has snapped I have just ordered the mk 1 golf one so hopfully it will fit!!!Comment

It does fit after you open the holes out slightly.
Took me 20 mins and gives riughly 30 percent lesd throw making gear changes more precise.Comment

Dremel works well. There is a guide under short shift kit on here somewhere.Comment
