    Gearbox Help Please

    Hi all, I'm new to the forum and starting off on a rather bad note.

    I recently brought a 1989 2.3 7a coupe quattro, on the way home the gearbox decided to end its life, So Ive managed to source another which I was told was an ASZ code like my original. but Its arrived and its totally different apart from being a quattro box.

    Can anybody shed any light on this from the following pictures? What its from etc?

    Hopefully he has just sent the wrong box and can still actually get the right one too me.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Ollie

    Code on top of the bellhousing;

    all of the box;

    Other part numbers;

        Gutted .

        I did notice the porsche reference through google myself, no idea why though. Any ideas where I can find an ASZ or AXM gearbox?

          That's an 016, the original box is an 01A. Either you've supplied the wrong code, or they've supplied the wrong box.

            Yeah I know I need an ASZ mate, and have been supplied the wrong box.

            Just wondered what this is from.

                  Where about are you? I still have my box I removed from my coupe when I went 01E. I'm in the state's but can arrange collection for you if your local. Box is in lockup in South Elmsall, between Doncaster and Pontefract.

                  Cheers

                          Interesting. As stated above is a 016 5 spd box. Came in my 1985 4 door Quattro.

                          So the box should be worth some $. 4:11 diff ratio and low ratio 1,2 3rd. and lock up centre diff.

                          Just stripped my box , to replace the syncro rings on 3rd gear. Part number 012 311295F. Found 3 used ones so doing 2nd, 3rd and 4th, while I am at it. If not mistaken that part number fits a whole lot of different boxes including 01E, (including 2002 A6 Quattro), 016 (Quattro and FWD). Suspect the rings I acquired are ex a VW Kombi box

                          Car has done 250K miles and apart from the syncro rings, box is in good condition.
                          Regards
