    2.8 CQ Gearbox (again)

    Hello to all
I have been holding on to my 2.8CQ since the gearbox broke about 4 years ago.
It still starts alright, and has previosly had a lot of jobs done e.g, exhaust/ bushes/ timing belts e.t.c
i finally got the car into a very local place to me 'specialised engines' in grays. they got the gearbox out today, definately a CVX 01A type. the clutch is ok, so wasn't a broken plate as hoped.

    Can i fit a DJR 01A from an A4 2.8 quattro?

i might be able to source one quite easily, otherwise any other recomendations for where to get my gearbox fixed or other suitable 2nd hand gearboxes?

very grateful for help/ advice. i am so desperate to get the car back on the road, Hate driving a van all the time. maybe even in time for the adi in October.

i had a brief look at car this evening and will see him in the morning, obviously he is anxious to get the car off the 4 poster.

    Thanks
    Phil Martin

DO NOT let them touch the car, please.

    google specialised engines and passionford

so many rip offs, failures and extra rip off costs involved, please get it out of there!

            lost my post..oops
            Hi to all
Saw my car this morning, gearbox is out, at last. definately gearbox and not the clutch, as apart from the release bearing being worn rest is sort of ok.
Am very excited at the prospect of having the car working again, has been a long time.
The corrosion underneath made the job a lot more difficult, they used a lot of penetration spray, and suffered several broken bolts in bell housing, prop/ diff. Whilst up on the ramp i hope to get the droplinks changed (new ones bought years ago), Engine oil, should i change the oil in the diff? or the oil in the replacement gearbox?
I have ordered a Sachs clutch from Quattro corner at a reasonable price (lovely guy and very patient/ helpful) to be delivered tomorrow, and have secured a 2nd hand gearbox from a forum member from a similar 2.8 coupe quattro.

Would still be interested to know if the later gearbox 'DGR' from an A4 is a suitable alternative. Anyone have experience with that? they seem almost 2-a penny

perhaps my CVX gearbox could be rebuilt with an even more mpg friendly 5th gear??
first things first, get it running..insurance,, MOT... bodywork and wheels are a luxury! my tyres are good dunlops, brand new 4 years ago.

Look forward to giving further updates of the progress.
few pics attached from underneath the car. lots of rust and spiders!
            Cheers
            Phil
