    ABY Clutch pedal

Just broken down on way to work with clutch pedal all the way down.

Rung RAC and waiting for them to tow me home.

After leaving it for 20 odd minutes I have noticed that the pedal is slowly coming back up and the car is going back into gear now.

After another 10 minutes or so, the clutch is all the way up now and back to normal!

Does this sound like a master cylinder?

I changed one on a 1990 20v Quattro but this one looks different in the engine bay.

    Car is a 95 s2 aby.

    Make sure they know it's a quattro/4WD.

Fairly sure it'll be a flatbed anyway.

rac will tow up to 30mph for 30 miles. if computer says yes your covered.

don't get ecp master. its not right. its an audi job I say for aby. I fitted ecp part and it lasted 1 week (as its not right part). then its tow time again.

Only difference ABY/ADU to the rest is the pin diameter and shaft/thread diameter on the clevis; the MCs are interchangeable other than that.

Found a Pagid one for £42.60.

              Dealers want £200!

Pagid have OE approvals don't they?

Can the Pin and shaft be changed over?

The ones they list on Euro Car Parts and Car Parts 4 Less have the same part number for the 3B and ABY.

                Thanks

ABY is M8 thread; 5 speed is M6. Not sure about pin diameter, it may be the same. Not sure why they beefed it up but they didn't manufacture the 6 speed ones properly, hence why they fail when 5 speeds do not.

Clutch pedal failure modes and Clutch Master and Slave info

If the pedal came back up, it's likely not the pedal that is the issue, it is more likely either the Clutch Master or the clutch slave. Start by bleeding the clutch line (at the slave cylinder).

Clutch pedal failure modes (which I don't think you have):

                      Thanks guys.

Il bleed the system at the slave cylinder and take it from there.

It's strange as the clutch feels perfect now with no sponginess at all.

RAC guy said it could be the seal that inverted in the master cylinder and then settled again after a while pressurising the system.

Not going to drive it just invade it fails again!

Just for reference, 'carparts4less' IS 'Euro Car Parts' as is 'Autoclimate'

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/autoclimateltd ( they seem to have shut the Ebay shop )

You have to be careful ordering from them as prices on the different websites vary a lot sometimes

Been on the phone to dealers to order and they've told me the master cylinder is obsolete! They no longer manufacture them - stopped in jan 2013!

The only one I can go for is the copy ones . The ones iv seen so far have the same part number regardless of age -which implies that it will be the one with m6 thread.

How do I fit that onto my clevis?

Could I possibly get an older clevis and use it on my pedal?

as stated before don't get the ecp one.

the thread is wrong size, different length not as thick a bar. the rubber buffer is not press sealed and will break in 2.

btdt to try to save a few quid. unless the parts have changed and I doubt it.
