  • urS4 to urS6 gearbox swap

    Hello guys,

I'm thinking of swapping my urS6 auto tranny for a urS4 manual 6 speed CBL.

I'm thinking getting everything I need from the S4 - shafts, pedals, clutch, flywheel, clutch pump, gear selector driveshaft and diff. Will it be plug'n'play? How would the old locking diff go along with the EDL? Should i make any ECU modifications or just have to change something through the VAG-COM?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Cheers.

BTDT, you just use EDL and disable the manual Diff lock.
i believe you can get it done if you would with some additional
    wirings work on it.

you also need to cut and expand the shift forks tunnel.you need
to cut some parts of the body. It's not that hard.the manual shifter
    has 2 shift forks.

You need front Driveshafts, propshaft from manual car.the rear
driveshafts are identical.you can use stock one.

Trans mounts are the same but you need brackets from manual box.

you need the reverse signal from the big round connecter from
    automatic box valve body.

bypass the safety switch on the automatic box when
thr gear is not in P and N position.it's located on the fuse aux.
panel under the steering wheel.you just pull out the relay and
bypass 30 to 57 pin iirc.

10x a lot!!! Someone should change nick to UrSPedia

And what about the ration of the final gear. Will it be easy to put a bit longer one - 0,71 or 0,68 instead of the 0,73? Car is with a RS2 turbo and EM and I'm planning a minor power increase.

you can use the stock CKL 3.89 rear diff from stock one but not sure if you can swap
the 3.89 center diff between auto and manual box.i guess
it should be bolt right up.
again you can add/change the 6th gear to
from .78 to .68 or .56 but i guess the easier way
is selling the box and get the another used box
with the desired 6th gear ratio.you don't need to mess
with tearing apart your box.if you are in europe
              there's a lot of 01Es available for you ie.A6/S4 2.7tt,
              diesel 2.5tdi,etc.

I'm sure if i can bolt the diff to the new box so I'll be getting a 4.11 one. Has anyone do it?

Not sure what do you mean but here's the conclusion

Autobox "CBF" UrS4 , "CRG" UrS6 has 3.89 on the Diff.

"Most" of the 01E manual box has 4.11 some has 3.89,4.3 but is just a few.

So when you're going to swap the box.you just pull out the rear diff from the manual car

that's all.let's say you just take everything after the engine to the rear diff and fully swap them.
