O1e Gear Shift Help

ok ive got a s2 01e going in my s1e2 project. I bought a solid short throw shift to siut b3/b4 , i though that would be the easy option as it would match the box.As my car is the early b2 shape it has the small hole in the tunnel for the shift rod, ive made a tower above floor to suit the shifter.
problem is that the shift needs a lot of sideways throw to get all the gates but hole in tunnel wont allow it
if i was to use a sport quattro style shift the gear pattern would be reversed becuase of the way it pivots??
but it would fix the rod movement at the tunnel hole problem??
Is there a bolt on shift with linkages included kit available from somewhere
any ideas and pics of shifts would be appreicated

Don't know fix for a short shifter this is how I solved "01E into B2" using combination of 01E and B2 parts.
No more hitting the tunnel and shifter side movement is now enough to select reverse and 6th gear.
I'd drop the idea about using B3 shifter.

thanks Val ,i must be missing something here, if i use a b2 shift wouldnt it reverse the pattern 1st swaps with 2nd etc because of where the shift pivots??

Your main goal is to make short shift or in general make 01E work into B2?

This is not spoon feeding
It took me multiple months to try multiple versions of gear selecting.

ok yes i read it ,still didnt answer my question,this is why iam embarist to ask questions on forums because i should know .I think we have 27 or 28 URQs here in OZ none of which would have 01E , apart from my s1 ive never seen any b2 based cars here , i do know of one b2 quattro but its 1500kms from here never seen any s2 here although there are some,so when you get stuck and pop around to a mates who has one in the shed to look at think yourself lucky as for parts , all mine have to come from the other side of the world .not the local wreckers/breakers. so when you read my posts and think this guy has no clue you would be right, so thanks for your help sorry if ive taken your post the wrong way ,ill work it out myself as usual

After alot more fitting refitting and generaly poking about i have definately got the wrong shift with the wrong linkages, it would appear that i need a ABY style linkage.
at the moment the pivots cross over if that make sence therefore reverse is to the left and back not forward as it should be
so does anyone have a ABY or equilant linkage assembly complete (i think thats what i need) with all attaching bits that ill need that i can buy??? condition of the balls etc doesnt matter, ill change it over to uniball after i get it all in and working.
if i can get both ends talking i might get somewhere
