    7a --> Abc

    Morning all ..

Just a short and sweet, nothing complexed.

Will the gearbox and centre diff from a 7A Quattro, fit onto a 2.6 ABC Quattro with out any modifications ? .. If not .. Is the centre torsen diff the same ? And if so, is it easier to just remove the diff from the back of the box as apposed to dropping the whole g/box ? .. Will the centre diff from a 7A fit into the back of my ABC's gearbox ?

    Any help appreciated

    Sam

the bolt pattern are the same in both.. change the complete unit... BUT minor things may be different.. i dont know WHAT gearbox you will put in.. and the gearbox DO have a gearcode stampet in; by the 2 upper bolthole in bellhousing.. ( fx AHA 12345 or CBL 34567).. its the year and ratio... open the tranny, filled with oil are some greasy job..and there are 5 or 6 different thorsen unit in gearbox..i dont know if they are interchangable.

Thanks for the reply ! I'd assumed from previous research that the bolt pattern would fit, I was more worried about g/box mount locations, and wether the overall length of the box (engine-back) was any different ? Wether the prop would still be the right length. And what about d/shafts ? I know there is a difference between 5/6 cylinder shafts isn't there ?

I currently have a 93 80 2.6e Quattro 5 speed. I'm looking to change the gearbox to a box and centre diff from a 5cyl 7A 5speed Quattro gearbox. I haven't got any box codes as of yet.

                  7a ratios

                  01A 5 speed, Codes ASZ (11/1988 to 10/1990) or AXM (from 10/1990)
                  final drive - 37 : 09 = 4.111
                  1st - 39 : 11 = 3.545
                  2nd - 40 : 19 = 2.105
                  3rd - 40 : 28 = 1.429
                  4th - 35 : 34 = 1.029
                  5th - 31 : 37 = 0.838
                  reverse - 35 : 10 = 3.500

                      as ive said previously,

the rest of it should all bolt up fine, mounts etc

and front diff flanges just unbolt with 1x allen bolt in the centre

Box will be the same length etc
