    01E CBL re-build options

Just stripped the gearbox out due to a whine in the box and found the culprit, pinion diff bearing, which is the tell tale of the weak 1st gear for this type of box.

I was considering getting the up rated syncros here http://advancedautomotion.com/shop/p...products_id/88
but not sure if this is worth spending on a weak 1st gear box

I might just replace the bearing and seals and go for the dog box gear set when the CBL 1st gives in

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

I also have the 5 speed box from the V6 which would need some modification to fit but this also has the narrow 1st gear I think

                Thanks for your feedback

i'll have to check this as it's still under the V6. Here's a brief expaination of what i'm doing; I have both cars, the V6 coupe Quattro 2.8 AAH engine and the S4 Quattro 2.2T AAN and am currently converting the S4 engine and drive train to the Coupe as a track car. If I use the 5 speed gearbox I also have the rear differential available as i read here on the forum that the ratios are different.
I would prefer to use the 6 speed but apparently the CBL is not the right box for this project.

At the moment I have the engine and complete drive train out of the doner car S4
