Wide First Gear and or Flexible Shaft ?

I have a gearbox code of either CKF or DPH, and was wondering if, whichever is the correct code for a urS6, it has either a wide first gear or a flexible shaft ?

I understand the advantage of a wide first gear, but what is the advantage of a flexible shaft ?

    Thanks.

Check your PM. CKF = rear diff (37/9 =4.11:1)

DPH = 6 spd 01E trans used in the late run UrS6s.

The DPH came with the 01E311105J main/first gear shaft. The 105J has the wide first gear but not the flexibility of the 105H.

The 01E311105H is the one with the wide first gear and the necked-down, flexible shaft, as used in the later RS2 CRBs. It was also used in the 6 spds that were installed with the V8s in the UrS4s and UrS6s. The idea of the flexible shaft is when the load is applied abruptly to 1st gear (think high RPM clutch drops), as the gears mesh under load, the main shaft twists a bit to absorb the shock and, in theory, help to prevent the chipping and galling of the 1st gear teeth that is more prevalent with the more rigid, non-flexible, first gear/main shaft 01Es.

Did all rs2 boxes have the wide and flex first/shaft.

NO. The early RS2s did NOT get the CRB 6 spd. They got CGRs that only had the wide first gear on the non-flexible mainshaft. It is the CRB that has the wide first gear *and* flexible main shaft.

I was hoping to tell you when CRB 63135 was built but I don't have access to the info I though I did. I can say that with only around 3000 RS2s being built and some of those receiving the CGR, there were not 63135 plus CRBs built. That said, it must be later in the 01E run of that era with a number that high.
