A4 1.9tdi Quattro rear diff help

theres no noises from my diff but today while maneuvering a trailer I heard a clunk when going from forward to reverse and vice versa so once I was home I jacked it up for a nosey.
theres a bit of play there. whats my options?

Whats the cv joint like, sounds a bit dry?

theres no sign of it leaking oil but thats tomorrows job is to check it for oil and give it some fresh stuff

well a lower miles diff came up on eBay and it was sitting at £50 with no bids so I stuck a bid in and won it at the starting bid.

its 350 miles away and collection only but it just so happens my mate is going to be 30 odd mile south of there on the 7th of next month so hes going to nip in and collect it
