  • RS2 clutch master cylinder

    Hello Guys,

I have to replace the clutch master cylinder on the RS2 but since they didnt sell in NA, I need to cross reference (if possible) the part number to any Audi models clutch master from the same era before ordering from Europe as a last resort.

    part # for the RS2 clutch master cylinder is: 8A0 721 401

    part # for the Audi 80Q is: 893 721 401D

Does anybody knows if these two are similar??

    UrS4 part # gives me 4A1 721 401

Not the same body style thu so I would assume the Audi 80Q would work best???

    Any thoughts are welcome! )

AFAIK you can use the early 893 721 401D master cylinder, you also need the early clevis as its a smaller thread 431 721 991 A

The early items are better and not prone to breaking like the crappy plastic ABY / RS2 item.

      The 4A1721401 / 893 721 401D will work but the pushrod is m6.

      RS2 and ABY is m8.

You will need an m6 clevis+ nut

The routing of the brakefluid feed is at the wrong angle but that can be dealt with.

893 721 401D has the fluid port in the same orientation as the RS2 item, so get that one

Thank you guys! I ordered the ...401D like suggested, the clevis and the nut as well. Clevis alone was 45 bucks!! Half of what the master is costing me but what the heck. You gotta do what you gotta do! Pedal is playing tricks on me and wont fully release up. Not really convenient especially in traffic

                    Hi all.

My master cylinder it's giving up on me...
So I had to find a quick solution.
Original we know it's NLA and when available was ludicrous price....

Assuming that as others (thanks!) already said the older version # 893 721 401D can be used and easily sourced OEM
I got myself a nice and cheap (€ 53,00) cylinder made in italy by L.P.R. a company that does part for a lot of brands including Brembo ATE Ferodo etc etc.

I did'nt want to spend another 45 euros on the 6mm clevis and so I went to implement the 8mm screw instead of the 6mm.
                    Chopping
                    Drilling
A little bit of new 8mm pattern on the larger part of the strut
Screw on and a nice ring of TIG welding
                    Job done

As you can see the cylinder can pivot so it should be alright if there's a need to push on an angle.
Will fit it shortly and let you know how it works hope this helps.
