80 Quattro rear diff capacity and oil grade ?

    Evening all,

I'm sure a handfull of you may have glanced through my diff jump/bang query, Tuesday night I swapped the nose cone of the diff over and my problem is still there.

I'm going to be swapping the whole rear diff unit over at the weekend, and as I have the spare diff off the car it's going to be a lot easier to change the oil !

What's the capacity of the rear diff ? And I've been told that a decent 75w85 will be sufficient ? However GL4 or GL5 ?

    Thanks guys

    Sam

Any danger in overfilling the rear diff?
Think I might have added a tad too much. I guessed it would come out the plug on top, and it seems that way..

Unlikely you could overfill, it would just run out.

if the breather cap is moving freely at the top you should be ok, if not it will push past the seals on either side I would expect. If you think you have over-filled I'd remove some of the fluid and re-do to be safe, those seals are a PITA to do at the best of times.
