Afternoon guys and girls,
Had a funny moment yesterday that puzzled me a tad.
Since I've owner my 80, I've always thought the clutch was a little stiff, but it's always bit nicely and hasn't caused an problems.
However, one thing I have noticed over the last 6 months is that when we get wet weather, if I drive through a slight puddle, my clutch pedal goes extremely light ! As if it's just the weight of the spring holding it up ? It still bites nicely and doesn't slip or judder at all.
After a minute or so further down the road it returns to normal.
Yesterday afternoon (in torrential rain) I was driving along as normal in 5th, as coming to a junction I dipped the clutch as went to change down, I noticed the pedal was really light, went to select third and it wouldn't go into gear, tried second, nothing ? .. I pulled over, hazards on etc. With the car still running I pumped the clutch a few times, (pedal still extremely light) and tried to select first, wouldn't go in, second ? Third ? Fourth ? Fifth ? .. Nothing, engine just tried to labour and stall if I lent on the gearstick. It was as if the clutch wasn't depressed (my foot was nearly coming through the footwell ha) .. After a minute or so of persistently trying to select a gear and pumping the clutch, it suddenly slipped into fourth. I tried first and it went in no problems, pedal was still light but bit normally, and I carried on my way and it was fine.
Could moisture be getting in somewhere ? Only ever does it in the rain ? .. I know my linkage is a bit worn but it was as if the clutch wasn't engaging/disengaging ?
Any ideas ?
Sam
