Afternoon people
I know I've been asking a lot of help recently and a lot of silly questions but I really need some help :/
Some of you may have seen my post a few months back about a LOAD of transmission slack I had, I thought it was the diff mount, so replaced it with an APIKOL poly one. Didn't make a difference, I thought it might be the rear diff itself, swapped it... And it made no difference ... I was told it could be a rear inner cv making the diff jolt ... I done all the tests (unbolting driveshafts 1 at a time, diff lock on, in gear, rocking wheels etc) and it's making the noise regardless. The main bulk of the noise is coming from the prop, however ... A lot of people, have recently have said that the dual mass could be on the way.
Here are my symptoms still :
Pulling away in first : as soon as I come to the biting point, there's a nasty "thud" sounds like it's coming from behind, where the prop is taking up slack in the drivetrain somewhere.
As long as the slack is taken up it's fine, but obviously every gear change unless I'm EXTREMELY slow and smooth, it thuds as soon as you hit the biting point, AND as soon as you re-apply the throttle.
Changing down the box it's fine, the only time in this scenario that it does thud is if you are to change down a gear completely off throttle, then re-apply throttle.
Around a week ago in the wet, the clutch was not engaging at all, as I approached a junction, I went to select 3rd to change down ad it was as if the clutch was not operating, the pedal had gone light, and I was sat for 5 minutes trying to select any gear. Out of the blue it slipped into fourth, and has been fine sinse.
Could this be the dual mass on it's last legs ? Or should my next step be prop ? The centre carrier seems fine, and I'd imagine if the UJ was causing this amount of slop it would have shat itself by now.
I knew these problems would be cropping up due to the nature of the way the car is being used. But didn't think diagnoses would be this tricky ha !
The car is a 94' 80 2.6 Quattro converted to RWD with a welded centre diff and the front shafts removed.
The car has done 3 or 4 drift sessions and is actually surprisingly fun and controllable. However I can't keep kicking the clutch, with the way the drivetrain is at the minute.
Was meant to be doing a session this afternoon aswell :/ but will be cancelling.
Any suggestions ? Please ha ?
Thanks
Sam
