Why? FWD 01E gearbox would be easier for that task.

all you do is weld the Torsen diff and viola, you can use it in FWD mode.

Great stuff thanks. Is there a reversible mod where the diff can be locked ?

I have always wondered if you just couldn't use a 944 gearbox. It looks as if it would bolt up. Uses a lot of 01E part number part too.

That would be rwd though but from what I've seen it is definitely do able as there a few i5's in 944's these days

I'm not crazy.....I was thinking right. The 944 box is mounted in the rear so it would work

The engine is mated to the gearbox in the rear via torque tube.

So in theory rotate 180% and use as a fwd box ?

Just run it in the same orientation.

Would you need to source a suitable bell housing after removing the torque tube to mate the box to the I5?

Well, these would be a lot easier to do than fit a porsche box. The bell housing isn't PnP.

there is also a spool made for these gearboxes that replaces the Torsen, and that would be able to be undone instead of welding.

the two on the left are the center Torsen spools (only use one of course) and the one on the right is the spool to replace the rear diff for the CQ/S2/B3 stuff.
