Gearbox RS2/S2???

Folks

1. Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between the RS2/S2 gearboxes?

2. How much BHP/Torque can these reliably take?

3. How (if necessary) do you upgrade them??

1. number of gears and ratios

If thats the official rating for the boxes then most people on here should be worried cos you can pretty much touch on that torque figure on a standard S2 with just a remap.

The RS2 box has a stronger 1st gear than the S2 boxes, however both seem to be able to take a fair amount of punishment and AFAIK final drive in both boxes is the same also resulting in no better top end available either way

They are almost the same gearbox.
RS2 and late S2 had a stronger (wider) first gear. So I you have a post 95-96 S2 you will have the stronger 1st.

If not and you upgrade the engine, just be carefull in first gear and you should be fine.

S2 3b had a 5 speed gearbox.
