    Rear diff drain plug

Does anyone know what the part number is for this?
IS there a washer of some sort also?

Those of you with etka, is it number 4 or 14?

really need to get one ordered today.

    thanks

It is number 4. Only listed on later cars for some reason!!

012 301 127 F Retails @ £3.93 + VAT each. I can do them at £2.50+VAT each. It's the same plug for the filling and on the gearbox.

VAG are showing 19 in stock. I've ordered 8 to bring to the garage meet in case anyone needs them. Don't know what day I'll be down yet though.

Don't know how in other countries, but when I was trying to order the plugs from local VAG dealer, they brought plugs correctly sized but with some weird shape socked which was not usual hex socket.

Lucky me, they took all four plugs back, but said, that the ones with hex socket are no longer supplied.

Socket looks like torx socket but with full center. Don't know how to describe, but the wrench which is used to turn them costs a lot.

P.S. Managed to buy plugs from scrapyard - golf II gearbox plugs fitted just fine .

I'm hoping mine will be on my doorstep when I get home tonight. I have a funny feeling they will be the torx head type which may cause me a problem at Baschurch.

The ones I've got in are the security torx type things instead of the old style hex head. I'll see If I can get a tool sorted out for them.

I'll have a couple of the sockets with me as well just in case.

You can buy the security torx drivers through RS components and should be able to get them from good fastener suppliers...

                    Cheers,

Do you need to use new filler plugs when you do this job?

Going to be using airtools with 17mm bit so dont reckon have any problems getting the plug out.

LOL, you will struggle to get air tools in there unless diff is pulled out. I had to do this when swapping my diff. And luckily it didnt do too much damage to the hex.

From what I've seen its the drain plug which gets most filled with road grime... The right Torx tool in steady hands with a long bar is all that is required in my experience to remove these boogers. But yes - remove the filler plug *BEFORE* the drain !

Removing the fillers wasn't a problem, but the drain plugs i would destroy if i got it off so i need 2 new ones.

On my car the bolts were a 10mm Hex not 17mm as stated.

Is there an alternative drain plug which is hex that can be bought?

I heard a rumour one from a Golf MK II?

Im sure all the S2's i have serviced have 17mm bungs, but your car is a late one, so they may have changed.
