    JHM Transmission Rebuild Kit

    Hi!

I am planing to rebuild my rs2 gearbox. I wonder if anyone has experiences with JHM rebuild kit ? Are carbon Synchros better than original one ?

Is kit on link below suitable for rs2 gearbox too? I have already sent email to JHM but have not received any answer

    Thanks !

That kit should be fine. The syncros are better too. As long as you have no noises from bearings or worn shafts this is what you want. Though I have rebuilt 2 gearboxes just using the parts required not complete kits. Eg just changing worn parts. But that upgraded shift collar is ment to be good.

Thanks for info! I have checked your threat regarding gearbox, interesting reading!

Well i have bought used rs2 gearbox and i need to change seals because it is leaky. How do i know that bearings are worn if i never use this gearbox ? Is it possible to check them when rebuilding gearbox ?

      Thanks

You can sometimes tell by feel or by looking for scores. But I would be tempted to fix the leak and put it in and try it.

i agree, but it is quite a lot of work to put it into s2 just to test it

Sure but rebuilding the gearbox is expensive and time consuming. I can change the clutch on my urs4 on my own , but less than 5 hours.

You need a press and some pullers too.

You can tell by feel and by looking. It should move without getting stuck. It won't fall in and out of gear and should have some resistance but not stick.

Today i started work on gearbox. I have to change gasket to fit the oil leak. I will also visualy check components. According to that i will deceide if i will fully rebuild it or only change gasket and fix leak.

Today i took out torsen diff and one of the magnets. I took some photos, magnet is quite covered with small iron bits, they feel like mud ..

Any opinions is that ok or bad ?

That does look worse that the ones i rebuilt. Mine were more like a copper grease type texture, but silver in colour.
