    Haldex rear diff for 01e?

Ive read abit about the ratio on a rear diff för golf r32/a3/TT and the gear ratio is 17/27, what does this mean? I want to be able to use my handbrake initiating a drift, and still want a welded centrediff, so i figuered a rear diff from a haldex car would be great, but i got to find one With the right ratio, is there any gearboxes that would work with the haldex diff? Right now im using a 01e gearbox With welded centre and a welded s2 rear diff, the car is an urquattro. Any ideas or tips are velcome

You don't want Haldex. Or if you really really want it, installing it is going to be a challenge (IMO).

BTW, the 27/17 is the number of gear teeth on the Haldex Crown and Pinion gears, i.e. a 1.588 to 1 ratio (1.6:1 in the diagram above). In comparison, our UrS front and rear diffs have 37/9 (4.11:1) Crown and pinions.

Just weld both and turn up boost. Seen a few Haldex rear diff pumps giving up as well as the little filters clogging. Could possibly just link a hydro handbrake to operate a slave cylinder to knock the centre diff lock back off and a huge spring to kick it back in again. Not sure how long it would last mind you.

Quattro gearboxes are 4.11, 3.89 and 4.375 from what I remember, so slight issue there.

Haldex rear diff would be an interesting solution, unlocks in stock form as soon as you touch the brakes or handbrake. Controllers available to make it lock under braking, variable bias etc.

Were you going to control it from a micro switch on the hydraulic handbrake?

                1. You're correct. I was thinking purely B3/B4/C4

                2. My understanding is that Haldex is used in, for example, Volkswagens to provide some rear wheel power *IF* the front wheels start to slip. Normally all the power goes to the front wheels. If the car in question is being used for drifting, you want rear wheel power ALL THE TIME. On that basis, it is not clear to me how Haldex could help the situation. If anything, I would think that removing power from the front wheels would be the desire.

You can use a Haldex controller to get full time four wheel drive, including under braking, and a variety of other variable biases.

Haldex would be useful for drifting as you could use a hydraulic handbrake to brake only the rear wheels by unlocking the rear drive whilst the handbrake is operated. Lets you start a drift with the handbrake and also use it mid drift to adjust speed/angle.

Then the major issue is the 27/17 crown and pinion vs the front diff's 37/9.
