    3b Flywheel modification

Hello, guys. I have a pressure plate which is for s4 aan. The two long pins on my 3b flywheel interract with it. Can I remove them and what will affect this?

If you use a 3B flywheel you have to use a 3B pressure plate. the AAN pressure plate is thinner than the 3B because the AAN has a 2-mass flywheel which is thicker than 3B flywheel.

you can drive without these long pins.

I hope you didn't machine away those pins. They have a serious and necessary purpose. They are the ignition timing pins. No pins = engine will not start or run.

there must be a more important reason imho.

I don't think they just left them there because that would affect the balance of the fw. And again they can't be used for balancing the assy because they are at the same spot on every FW.

not that it is important, it is just pure curiosity for me. I have reinstalled them where I found them after my fw got machined

Urs4boy, no I installed them back. And the important pin on the back of the plate is used for determining crank position. The two long pins in the bottom of the manual you uploaded is what confuees me.

Maybe they are seen in starter window when engine is at tdc?

If my 2 long pins are facing downwards, i.e. their center point is at 6:00, so the important FW pin on the other side of the fw is at approx 4:30, approx 1/8 of the circle

Come on Dave, do your homework.
There is no sensor to read them an lo my cars runs fine with them turned into swarf.
The crank reference is on the other side of of the flywheel.

                            again...

...you can drive without these two long pins!!! there are for a factory diagnostic tool for the ignition angle. if you don't use these tool to check your ignition, you don't need that.

the important Pin for ignition timing is on the backside of the flywheel, only one short pin.
