Rear outer cv joint removal RS2

Hey, having a hard time removing the rear outer cv joint on the RS2. Seems it is a different type of locking on the Avant vs Coupe ? Tried to screw the bolt in while hammering on it , no luck. Posting a few pictures on the locking ring.

Does somebody have a solution without breaking the joint?

    Regards Christian.

I always a copper hammer/mallet and knock cv joints off with that, I don't see how you would undo the locking ring with the joint still on the shaft

I have also used that before. but this time it seems if the locking ring is interfering with the splines on the joint.

How? There is not enough room to get it out..

maybe heat it up and try again.

Bigger hammer... I have had a few good fights with outer CV joints - it is definitely easier to whack them off when placed in a vice... just the added trouble of disconnecting the 6 or 8 bolts from the gearbox end (plus a heat shield sometimes).

Am I missing something? Locking ring......this is the circlip, yes. And you're using circlip plyers to open the ends but they don't open enough as they're fouling on the joint?
I'd be for doing the above and have an accomplice (using said copper mallet) tap the joint off.
Is there any movement in the joint at all if you pull and push on it?

There is maybe 0,5mm movement, but then it seems to stop in the circlip. pressed the circlip as much as possible together, but still no movement

That looks completely different to me, i wonder if there is a locking ring/circlip on the back side holding it on, in which case you will have to disassemble the joint to get at it. If you plan to reuse the joint put a mark on the cage and outer so you can reassemble them in the same position.

You spread that locking ring into the cv (it doesn't come out) and tap the cv off at the same time.

But wont it then hit the inner wall of the cv? No, there is not enough room to get it out by spreading it out.

Yes it does hit the inner wall of the cv, and clears the shaft allowing the shaft to come out.
